Water, Source of Life – Submission Guidelines

"Water Source of Life" is a juried exhibit focused on water and water issues.  The exhibit is open to visual artists worldwide, working in any medium.

PHILOSOPHY

Water is essential to the survival of life on earth.  The bodies of all species are made up of more than 50% water. While more than 70% of the earth’s surface is covered by water, less than 1% is available for human use.  More and more, government and private interests vie for control of global water resources.  While access to drinking water has improved over the past few decades, one out of six people do not have access to fresh, clean water, and more that half of rural women still spend much of their day acquiring water for their families. A child dies every 15 seconds from water born diseases.  Pollution and a growing population are making this precious resource even scarcer.  Industry, mining, oil and gas extraction, agriculture, and human development poison our water sources with chemicals, pesticides, drugs, and biological waste.

“Water, Source of Life” is intended to draw attention to water and its influence on our lives, and to provide a catalyst for discussion around water issues.  Is access to water a human right?  Are we on the brink of a global water crisis? What water related issues have a direct impact on you and your community?  How can we balance our use of water with the needs of other people and other species? As an artist, what do you have to say?

The jury will consider subject, craftsmanship, aesthetics, innovation, creativity, and content during the jury process.  It is not necessary that works focus on a particular water related issue, however the jury will consider social, environmental, and political issues in the selection of works for the exhibit.
