NEWS
FROM THE TRAIL - JULY 2004
THE
JURY PROCESS
The
submission deadline for Sierra Art Trails has passed, and the jury process is
complete. At last count 110 artists will participate in the show, more than
doubling the size of the event's inaugural year in 2003.
The five judges invited
to jury the show included Earl
Rogers, Gloria Garland, Rose La Noce, Janet Houts, and Rivka Schaffner.
The judging was held at the home of event co-chairman Ellen Hurst. A delicious potluck around the pool was the first order of business, and with the judges stomachs full, the jury process
commenced forthwith! The
body of work that crossed the table was truly inspirational. The show will
include a large range of fine art and fine craft, with a few surprises including
two makers of hand-made musical instruments, and even a custom boat
builder! Although most are from the local area, artists have come from as
far as Santa Cruz, Sanger, and El Portal to participate. We are proud to include such
well known names as Donald
(Putt) Putman, Chris Sorenson (The Man of Steel), David Ashcraft, and Bob Boomer in the roster
for this year's show. Of the fifty artists that participated in the event in 2003,
forty three have returned to do it again. For those artists who are new,
welcome! To those of you who entered the show last year, thank you all for your continued
support!
One
of the biggest changes in 2004 is the extension of the region covered by the
show along Highway 49 as far as Boot Jack. As a result, many artists from
the Mariposa art community have entered, and will be showing in four location in
the Triangle / Darrah Road area. The number of participating North Fork
artists has grown as well, with artists showing in Sierra Highlands, along Road
200, and in Cascadel.
The
planning committee is overwhelmed with excitement, and I am already positive
this will be an outstanding event that helps to shape our Mountain Area art community for
years to come! Thank you everyone for your support and your participation! Jon
Bock, Chairman, Sierra Art Trails
