NEWS FROM THE TRAIL

July 2006 - Sierra Art Trails is Gearing Up Again

Sierra Art Trails is a home studio tour winding its way throughout our foothill area of Mariposa, Oakhurst, Coursegold, and the Bass Lake / Northfork area.  It is a wonderful opportunity for people to visit our artists and enjoy the fine art in the many varied styles and mediums.  This is also an opportunity to see more of a particular artist’s work than you would in a typical venue.  The show this year will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 14th and 15th

Catalogs will be for sale within the next few weeks. Each catalog is an art piece in itself and will also act at your ticket for two to follow the trail and see the show.  They will be $12 and you will be able to purchase them in several sites in downtown Mariposa.

The “Trail” is only 10 weeks away and we are so proud of our 33 participating Mariposa Artists this year.  We will be introducing them to you during the next few weeks.

One new artist for The Trails this year is Yvonne Sarazin.  She is a delightful, and very talented jewelry artist living in Mariposa.  Yvonne is a member of the Gem & Mineral Club and displays her work there.   She has only been making Wire Wrapped jewelry for 2 years and is already creating gorgeous pieces of art.  She likes to use different types of stones, crystals and dichroic glass as the center of her wire wrapped “one of a kind” pendants.   She says, “I think of each item I’m creating as a piece of art and make the wire its frame.  I love doing custom orders; it’s a pleasure for me to create something special to be cherished by my customers.”

Yvonne is now also making “Vintage Keepsake Pendants.”  These pendants are made from old family china that is chipped or broken.  The pattern is then cut from the old china, and wire wrapped into wearable art keepsakes.

Watch each week for different artists expressing their talent using different media.  It will introduce you to the diversity of the show and the wonderful artists of our community.
