Sierra Art Trails is open to visual artists and artisans working in all media including but not limited to; painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, photography, printmaking, mixed media, papermaking, woodcarving, digital art, jewelry, textile arts, and art glass.  Mass produced crafts, gift items, etc. will not be accepted.

Sierra Art Trails is open to both local artists and artists from outside the area.

Artists with studios located in Eastern Madera and Mariposa Counties are encouraged to show in their home studios, and to share their sites with others. Artists from outside the area can also participate in the event, providing they have access to a suitable viewing location within the area. The planning committee will work with artists who do not have access to a suitable site to help place them with other artists participating in the show.  First consideration is given to artists living within the area, but the show is open to any artist interested in participating in the event, regardless of where they live.

Location

The show takes place in communities throughout Eastern Madera and Mariposa Counties . The geographical area encompassed by the event includes Oakhurst, Coarsegold, North Fork, Yosemite Lakes Park , O’Neals, and communities along Highway 49 from Ahwahnee to Mariposa continuing on along Hwy 140 into Catheys Valley .

Sierra Art Trails takes place in artist’s studios, homes, art galleries, wineries, B&Bs, and other businesses throughout the area. All locations are subject to approval by the Art Trails planning committee.

Artists must be Present to Participate

Participating artists must be present at their sites both days of the event.  We encourage artists who are unable to participate on both days to re-apply another year when they can be present for the full hours of the show.

The Jury Process

Submissions are juried by a panel of art professionals to insure a high level of quality in the work offered during the event.  Artists who are accepted will be contacted shortly after the official submission deadline, and will receive an official acceptance letter by mail confirming their participation in the event.

Display of works by non-participants

Works by artists who are not officially entered in Sierra Art Trails (SAT) cannot be displayed at any official site during the event weekend, with the exception of business locations that regularly display works by other artists.  In the case of art galleries, co-operative studios, or other retail locations, other artwork or merchandise that would typically be available at the location can be displayed, but the featured artist or artists must be given special consideration, and must be the focus of activity for the event weekend.

Alcohol

Alcoholic beverages may not be served at show sites during the official hours of the event, 10 AM to 6 PM, Saturday and Sunday October 2nd and 3rd 2010.  Viewing locations with a California liquor license are exempt from this regulation, subject to review by the planning committee.

Seller’s Permits

Participating artists are responsible for collecting sales tax on work sold during the show, and must obtain or have access to a California seller’s permit in order to legally sell artwork to the general public during the event.  Artists interested in obtaining a temporary permit should contact the California State Board of Equalization at 1-800-400-7115 or on the Internet at http://www.boe.ca.gov/info/reg.htm
